Day 6 - St. Kitts B.V.I.

Drink of the Day – Hot Summer

St Kitts, was a new experience for the three of us and most of the ship’s crew as this is not a regular stop for Mariner of the Seas. As we pulled into the small harbor shortly after 6:00 this morning, we had no idea what to expect.

As soon as we left the ship this morning we hired a cab to take us on a tour around the island. Our cab driver, Agatha agreed to take us around the entire island and to stop at several points of interest. We discovered that St. Kitts is an absolutely beautiful island. On the Caribbean side the beaches are quite rocky. In the distance you can see nearby islands such as St. Bart, Nevis, and Sint Iustati.us. We could also see mile after mile of rolling lush green hills and volcanic mountains. The Atlantic side of the island had beautiful black sand beaches and much rougher waves. The following picture shows the Atlantic waves crashing into the volcanic rocks. Further down the road are beaches with black sand where people go to swim, sun, and picnic.

The following picture show a housing development built for low income families.

St. Kitts seems to have escaped the commercialism found throughout the Caribbean. The island is self ruled and relatively self sufficient. We had a chance to see beautiful scenery, homes, schools, churches, and small businesses. The people we met were very friendly and obviously proud of their island paradise. This is definitely an island worth visiting again.

Cheers!
